Combating Fall Armyworms on Potato Crops
Arysta LifeScience Solutions for Fall Armyworm
Arysta LifeScience has been leading the fight against a devastating Fall Armyworm invasion which was first identified in South Africa towards the end of 2016. The company obtained Emergency Registration for four products which could be used to combat the pandemic. Emma ®, JUDGE®, Masta 900 SP and Agropyrifos 480 EC were registered in the first quarter of 2017 for the effective control of the Fall Armyworm on maize and sweetcorn.
Dramatic cross crop contamination
An alarming escalation of the problem became apparent towards the end of February 2017 when Potatoes/Aartappels SA advised in an urgent newsflash of an outbreak of Fall Armyworms on a Potato Crop in Marble Hall in Mpumalanga. It appeared that the pest had migrated from a nearby maize field. It has been stated that the pest prefers maize, but will literally attack any food source, as clearly illustrated in this instance.
Solutions for Fall Armyworms on Potato Crops
Arysta LifeScience immediately responded to the crisis by applying for emergency registration to contain the outbreak. Label extensions to include the treatment of Fall Armyworm infestations on Potato Crops were approved for products: Emma ®, JUDGE®, Masta 900 SP and Agropyrifos 480 EC.
