New Fungicide for Cucurbits

After five years of development, Arysta LifeScience launched a new active ingredient in September 2015, cyflufenamid, for the control of powdery mildew on cucurbits (Erysiphe cichoracearum and Sphaerotheca fuliginea) in South Africa.

“A few years ago we made a commitment to our customers to reinforce our vegetable and fruits portfolio,” said Max de Bollivier, Head of Marketing, Arysta Southern Africa, he further explains “We are therefore quite proud to announce the launch of this excellent fungicide molecule for the control of powdery mildew.”

“Cyflamid® provides to South African farmer a potent and innovative solution to protect their yield from this devastating disease” said Peet Fourie, Product Managers, Vegetable & Fruits, South Africa ”Used at extremely low rates, Cyflamid® consistently outperformed the industry standards efficacy in our development trials conducted in South Africa on the especially in situation of heavy disease pressure.”

The cucurbits family regroup crops such as pumpkins, butternuts, cucumbers & baby marrows. This crop is grown in nearly all the regions in South Africa on over 8,200 ha of commercial production.

Cyflamid will comply with export residue tolerances on Cucurbits if sprayed at recommended rates and recommendations to countries with export tolerances less than 0.1 ppm

“We are now actively developing new crop uses for Cyflamid®, with the registration on table and wine grape which is expected to be granted in the later part of 2016” said Rupert Anelich, Head of Technical & Regulatory, Arysta Southern Africa.
